LinkedIn Joins the AI Chatbot Bandwagon

11/1/23—It's really great to see LinkedIn -- never a fast follower when it comes to social media trends -- on the early stages of incorporating AI chatbots. An AI chatbot for job advice seems very on-brand for LinkedIn.

I haven't had a chance to play around with the tool yet, but based on the description of the chatbot's features in this article, I'm intrigued, but also a bit underwhelmed.

What's intriguing about the bot:

- it might make job searches easier

- it could keep jobseekers from wasting time applying for something that isn't a good fit

- it can help jobseekers position themselves for success

What's underwhelming:

- the bot seems to repackage information LinkedIn already provides (do my skills match up? am I missing skills? who am I connected to at the company?)

- users have to launch the bot from the job listing. This doesn't reduce the friction of having to scan for job titles that might be relevant.

Still, it's a positive sign that LinkedIn is figuring out its niche in social AI and what its users will gravitate toward.
